| The Origins of Golf - Scotland
St Andrews in Scotland is where the first game of golf was supposedly played. The original course had 22 holes but was redesigned to 18 holes, as many of the holes were considered too short. In Scotland golf is played by all where in other areas of the world golf is considered a game for the wealthy.
Scotland has become a popular vacation destination, particularly for the avid golfer. The 2005 British Open in Scotland helped to make the area more popular. There are many golfing resorts in Scotland designed for the golf vacationer. Scotland will always be a popular golfing destination simply because of its importance to the game of golf.
Marriott Dalmahoy is surrounded by forest and parkland and hosted the Scottish PGA championships and the Solheim Cup. The St Andres course has its own new resort, the St Andrews Bay Golf Resort. Besides the courses at St Andrews it is also near Leven links, Scotscraig, Ladybank and Lundin Links
